Only minutes from downtown Taber and accessible off of Highway 864, the Town of Taber Transfer Station/Class III Landfill is available for the public to recycle and dispose of materials. Learn more about the services this facilities offers below.

The Town’s Transfer Station is located just west of the town boundary (½ mile south and west of MD Park on Hwy 864). Go west on 64 Avenue until you reach Hwy 864 – you will see the entrance.

Weather Impacts & Temporary Closures

The Transfer Station will be closed for service during the following weather conditions:

When sustained wind speeds reach 70km/h or higher;
When persistent wind gusts are 65km/h or higher;
When a High Wind Advisory or Wind Warning has been issued for Taber by Environment and Climate Change Canada;
When excessive moisture (rain, snow, flooding, etc.) has impacted the Transfer Station road to such an extent that Town crews are unable to maintain the road for traffic safety.

When the Transfer Station has to close, temporary signage stating the same will be posted for users to see. In case of windy conditions or severely wet weather, we recommend citizens call ahead (403-223-5569 or the Shop at 403-223-6018 during regular Town business hours) to determine if the Transfer Station is open before they come to the facility.

The Transfer Station may reopen during business hours if strong wind speeds subside, or road conditions improve.

Coupon Voucher System

The Town initiated a coupon voucher system instead of our former back-alley cleanup. Instead of having Town crews collecting waste from the alleys once a year, the Town annually offers households vouchers to cover some of the disposal fees for large items that need to be taken to the Transfer Station. These coupons can be used for additional waste that is generated due to spring cleaning, renovations, etc. The coupons/vouchers are free. Learn more:

About the Coupon Voucher System
The Town issues coupons/vouchers to cover some of the disposal fees of large items that need to be taken to the Transfer Station/Landfill.

These coupons can be used by residents to dispose of additional waste that can't fit in the carts. The goal of this program is to make spring cleanup, etc. more convenient and affordable for residents. Additionally, the coupon service can be accessed year-round, so home renovations do not have to coincide with an annual service.

How it Works:
- Each residential utility account holder in Taber is eligible for 3 coupons per year.
- Each coupon covers disposal costs for up to 250kg of waste (so all three coupons would be 750kg of waste total)
- Coupons can be picked up from either the Town of Taber Administration Office (A 4900 50th Street) or the Public Works Shop (A 6201 54st Avenue). Proof of address may be required.
Rules:
- Coupons must be presented to personnel at the Transfer Station weigh scale at the time of disposal
- Coupons are not available for commercial accounts.
- Coupons are only valid for the year they are issued.
- Tenants need to check with their landlord before obtaining the coupons for rental properties.
Do I need to use the Coupons when I go to the Transfer Station?
It depends. If you are dropping off compost or recycling, those drop-off locations at the Transfer Station are free to use, and don't require a Transfer Station Coupon.

If you are disposing of large amount of waste that you typically have to pay to get rid of at the Transfer Station, that's when you will use the Coupons.

Why do I have to pick them up? Why can't the Coupons be mailed to every household?
Not every household needs these coupons, so mailing them to everyone would waste taxpayer dollars. Instead, households that want to use the coupons can pick them up at their convenience. This approach also helps us track how the coupons are used, so we can understand their effectiveness and make improvements based on actual data.
