Thank you to all residents and stakeholders who attended the second Public Open House event on April 23, 2026, to review the draft materials for the Southeast ASP. The valuable feedback received will help inform the final ASP document as the Project Team moves towards Phase 4. A copy of the engagement boards presented at the event and a short survey are available for viewing below.

Project Overview

The Town of Taber (the Town) has selected Invistec Consulting Ltd. (Invistec) to complete a new Area Structure Plan (ASP) that is located within the Town and the Municipal District of Taber (the MD), named the Southeast ASP. This ASP will predominantly guide future commercial and industrial development of the area with opportunities for residential growth.

What is an Area Structure Plan?

Project Objectives

The purpose and objectives of the Southeast ASP are as follows:

Guide long-term land use to establish a clear development framework for future growth
Support sustainable economic growth by providing a well-planned supply of commercial and industrial lands to attract investment and support the local economy
Coordinate efficient and cost-effective infrastructure
Identify appropriate residential opportunities and transitions between new and existing commercial, industrial, and residential areas
Engage with the public and stakeholders to create a plan that is transparent and reflects the needs of the Town

Project Process and Timeline

The ASP project will be completed in four phases, as shown in the project phases figure below. The project is currently in Phase 1 – Project Initiation, which focuses on the development and approval of a Communications Engagement Strategy. This strategy will guide public engagement, most of which will occur in Phases 2 and 3, when the public and stakeholders will have the opportunity to contribute towards the development of the ASP.

Phase 2 – Background Research & Analysis will involve gathering and assessing technical information on land use, servicing, transportation, and environmental conditions to build a vision and land use concept for the ASP. Phase 3 – ASP Preparation will focus on developing and refining land use concepts, infrastructure strategies, and policy directions that guide future development in the area. Lastly, Phase 4 – ASP Finalization & Approval will incorporate public and stakeholder input into a finalized plan that will be presented to Council for consideration and adoption.

Public Engagement

Public engagement will play an essential role in shaping the ASP. Community input will help refine the vision and ensure that the ASP reflects local priorities and aspirations. Details about future engagement opportunities will be shared throughout the project.

Land Use Concept & Vision Statement Survey

The Project Team has taken all feedback to date to draft a land use concept and vision statement for the Southeast ASP, which were presented at the second Public Open House event. The land use concept and vision statement were further used to guide the draft Southeast ASP document. A link to the digital survey is provided below and a PDF copy of the survey is available in Project Documents.

Public Open House #2 (Completed)

Invistec and the Town of Taber hosted a second Public Open House for the Southeast ASP project on April 23, 2026. Residents and stakeholders were invited to review the draft ASP concept and infrastructure to help inform the final ASP document. Members of Invistec’s team presented along with members of the Town’s Administration to facilitate the drop-in style event and answer questions related to the project.

Residents and stakeholders were invited to help inform the Project Team in the development of the ASP. Members of Invistec’s team were present along with members of the Town’s Administration to facilitate the Open House and answer questions related to the project.
