Economic Development in Taber
The major economic base of Taber is food processing, oil and gas well servicing and agricultural services. The Town also boasts a strong retail sector as it acts as a service center for the surrounding rural areas.
The Town of Taber lies in the center of a rich irrigated diversified farmland belt, high in heat units and frost free days, with transportation links to major markets. Taber is located only 60 miles (98 km) north of the United States border and is situated 32 miles (50 km) east of Lethbridge and 169 miles (272 km) southeast of Calgary.

The Town of Taber not only has a tremendous indoor swimming facility (Aquafun Centre) but also boasts a challenging 18 hole golf course along with many other sports facilities. Other community facilities include a hospital, a curling club, a skateboard park, a Seniors’ Centre, ped/bike trails, and many neighborhood parks. From a retirement perspective the mild weather, proximity to the mountains and affordable property ownership are all benefits of living in Taber.

'Growing Our Economic Future - Taber Regional Economic Development Strategy' is a road map for attaining a collective vision of growing economic prosperity, backed by a thoroughly researched and consultation-informed action plan framework. This Strategy was a collaborative effort between the Town of Taber, Municipal District of Taber and the Town of Vauxhall.
Regional Economic Development Strategy
In 2019 the Town of Taber in partnership with the Municipal District of Taber and the Town of Vauxhall created a brand new regional economic development strategy. The purpose of the Strategy "Growing Our Economic Future" - is to set a roadmap for attaining a collective vision of growing economic prosperity, backed by a thoroughly researched and consultation-informed action plan framework. The Strategy applies to the Town of Taber, Municipal District of Taber, and Town of Vauxhall, as well as communities across the region that stand to benefit from its strategic objectives.
