Special Event Application
To ensure the Town of Taber is aware of events and their possible impacts it may be necessary to complete a Special Event Application. Providing information to the Town within the application helps to ensure that organizers have made the proper arrangements for a safe and successful event.
If you are planning an event, we ask that you complete and submit the Application a minimum of two weeks in advance of the event so our staff can verify the information and provide assistance where needed.
Please note that your event may also require additional permits depending on the type of event, types of activities, and any structures/entertainment you may be having. More information is available below.
Taber plays host to and welcomes special events throughout the year. To ensure that the Town of Taber is aware of events and their possible impacts it is necessary to complete a Special Event Application. In addition to providing information to the Town, the application, in conjunction with this information sheet, helps to ensure that organizers have made the proper arrangements for a safe and successful event.
A special event is any event or celebration that occurs that can be reasonably expected to impact the community and require services beyond, which are normally provided by the Town of Taber.
You may be required to obtain a permit for your event if you are having any of the following:
- Food Trucks
- Circus (indoor or outdoor)
- Erecting a structure of any kind for your event
- Getting a business to come from out of town

Town of Taber Recreation Department and Public Works Departments
The Town's Recreation and Public Works Departments are responsible for parks, recreation, roads, water, sewer and garbage. If your event will have an impact on these services beyond normal day-to-day operations then they will be notified.
This includes the use of facilities and equipment such as: bleachers, barricades, chairs, tables, etc. Examples of events that should notify public services include any that will attract a large volume of people or an event such as a parade or run/walk that will impact traffic flow. Any events requesting road closures must submit a Special Event Application and receive permission from the Town of Taber.

Taber Police Service
Events that will attract a large volume of people, affect traffic or road access or involve fireworks should be brought to the attention of the Taber Police Service. If additional security staff is hired for the event, it is essential that the Police are made aware.

Emergency Services (Fire and Ambulance)
Events that will attract a large volume or people, affect traffic or road access, involve fireworks or have a high risk of injury should be brought to the attention of emergency services (Taber Fire Department).

Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commissions
Events that include liquor/cannabis consumption or gambling components must get required permits and licenses from AGLC. Please contact them directly to see if your event requires a permit.

If you plan to serve food at your event, check with Alberta Health Services to establish if any permits or approvals are necessary. AHS also has information about proper food handling procedures.
