“Return Your Carts” Reminder Tags Coming in May & June

Post Date:05/10/2022 10:26 AM

In the coming weeks, you may see some reminder tags (pictured) placed on your waste carts. The Town has noticed an increase in carts being left in alleys and at front curbs after carts have been collected. This causes hazards in laneways and can result in carts being broken or misplaced, and can be a nuisance to neighbours and drivers. In an effort to increase compliance and to give a gentle reminder, the Town and Taber Police Service will be placing these tags on carts if they notice they haven’t been returned to your property after collection.

Instead of resorting to fines right away, the Town and TPS wanted to use the stickers as a kinder and friendlier way to remind residents of their responsibility. So if you see a sticker on your cart in the coming weeks, don’t panic! It is a friendly notice that we hope spurs you to remember to bring your carts back onto your property after they have been collected.

As our Community Standards Unit is about on their daily patrols throughout May & June, they may place a reminder tag on your carts if they have not been returned to your property by 7pm the day after your collection day. If you do receive a tag, please remember to retrieve your carts and place them back on your property after they are collected.

This reminder program will be carried out until June 30th, 2022. After that time, the Taber Police Service will use their discretion and may issue fines to those properties that remain non-compliant.

The Town would like to remind residents that it is a requirement that all waste carts must be returned to your property by 7pm the day after collection day (i.e.: if your collection day is Wednesday, you have until 7pm on Thursday to return your carts to your property).

Failing to return your carts to your property can result in fines under the bylaw.

We thank our residents for their cooperation and support of our 3-cart waste system. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Taber Police Service at 403-223-8991.
