Emergency Services

The Town of Taber is extremely fortunate to have the services of both a municipally funded and operated police service as well as ambulance service. Taber residents can feel secure in the quality and high level of emergency services provided to them.

TABER POLICE SERVICE

TABER POLICE SERVICE ANNUAL REPORT 2008-09

The Town of Taber is fortunate to have its own policing service. To this small but progressive police service, established in 1904, partnership is the name of the game. By working with the community and providing them opportunities to decide its policing needs, they are able to provide high quality policing services.

FIRE AND AMBULANCE SERVICES

Taber Emergency Services provides integrated delivery of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Suppression, Education, and Prevention, Rescue Services and Fire Inspection and Investigation. Service is provided to the Town of Taber, Village of Barnwell and the southern portion of the M.D. of Taber.

EMS is provided at the Basic Life Support level using a combination of paid full time and part time staff. Two ambulance units are staffed and ready to respond at all times. A third back up unit is staffed on an as required basis. The current fleet consists of a 1999 Ford/Crestline Pro-Medic Type III ambulance, a 1991 Ford Type II ambulance, and a 1986 Ford/Crestline Type II ambulance. The 1991 unit is scheduled for replacement in 2003 and will be re-designated as a back up unit at that time.

Fire/Rescue services are provided by up to 32 volunteer firefighters, including two Deputy Chiefs, three Captains and two Lieutenants. All members are regularly trained through internal and external courses and programs, to a standard level of Firefighter Part I & II and Pump Operator A.

The current Fire/Rescue fleet consists of a 1999 Freightliner FL-90, Fort Garry Crown Villager 1050 gpm pumper, a 1996 Freightliner FL-90, Fort Garry Crown Villager 1050 gpm pumper, a 1978 Ford/Superior 825 gpm pumper, a 2000 International Rescue/Command Unit, a 2001 Dodge 4x4 response/support vehicle and a 1991 GMC 4x4 response/support vehicle.

Taber Emergency Services is based out of the Emergency Services Building at 6201B – 54 Avenue. This four bay building houses all fleet vehicles, meeting room, living accommodations, and administration.

Taber Emergency Services is an active, professional group consisting of a mix of full time, part time and volunteer members, integrated to provide the highest and most effective level of service to you, the public that we serve. We believe that Emergency Services must be a visible, integral and active part of the community, and participate in many community events such as CornFest, Fire Prevention week, school activities and educational programs, and the Southern Alberta Family Safety Day.

Volunteer Firefighter applications are accepted from individuals who are 18 year of age and older, residents of Taber, have First Aid and CPR training, and are in good physical and mental health required to meet the job duties of a firefighter.

For information regarding any of our services, educational programs, or station tours, please contact the Emergency Services Director at 403-223-5541 or e-mail at ems@taber.ca.
