Municipal Election 2010
Local government elections are held every three years under the authority of the Local Authorities Election Act. The Act may be accessed on the Alberta Municipal Affairs website.
Elected offices for the Town of Taber are:

Councillor (6)
Important dates to know:
Nomination Day is Monday, September 20, 2010 (10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m.)
Election Day is Monday, October 18, 2010 (10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
Advance Vote October 13, 2010 (3:00 p.m. 7:00p.m.), Town of Taber Council Chambers

Candidate Information:
Qualification of Candidates (Section 21(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act)
You are qualified to be nominated as a candidate in any election under this Act if on nomination day the person:
(a) is eligible to vote in that election,
(b) has been a resident of the local jurisdiction and the ward, if any, for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day, and
(c) is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.

Nomination Packages are available in electronic format from taber.ca or in paper format from the Town Office, 4900A 50 ST, Monday Friday, hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Nomination Requirements
A candidate requires at least five (5) eligible electors to sign their Nomination Paper. A person who signs the Candidate's Nomination Papers must be a resident in the local jurisdiction on the date of signing the nomination papers, a Canadian Citizen and at least 18 years of age.
Nomination Papers:
Nomination papers for Mayor and Councillors will only be accepted between the hours of 10:00 am and 12:00 noon at the Council Chambers, Town Office, A 4900 - 50 Street.
Election Sign Guidelines:
Pursuant to Town of Taber Land Use Bylaw 4-2006 election signage does not require a development permit provided it is removed within 14 days after the completion of the relevant election or plebiscite.

Voter Information:
You are eligible to vote in the Town of Taber municipal election if you are:
18 years of age;
A Canadian citizen;
Have resided in Alberta at least 6 months prior to election day; and
Are a resident of the Town on election day.
There is no Voters List, however, all voters must sign the voting register stating that they meet these qualifications before they will be given a ballot.

Town wins Innovator award
The Town of Taber took top honours in the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association 2009 Municipal Sustainability Innovator Communities Award for its community sustainability plan Simple As Dirt. The Innovator Communities Award recognizes innovation in municipal sustainability planning.

Bi-Annual Road Upgrade Projects
Currently, the Town typically undertakes major road upgrade projects every two years hence the name Bi-Annual Road Upgrade Projects". The bi-annual strategy provides the Town an opportunity to realize more attractive unit rates, thereby reducing project costs.
In May 2009, the Town of Taber adopted a 10 Year Capital Works Plan. The plan is a living document as such we anticipate it may change over time as road conditions change and as more detailed information becomes available regarding the condition of our underground utility lines (such as water and sanitary sewer mains). The 10 Year Plan will be used by the Town as a guide while identifying and selecting roads for future upgrades. Roads are rated and assessed a priority score based on a number of factors including:
Asphalt surface condition
Concrete condition
Water main material & condition
Sewer main capacity & condition
Storm sewer main
